"Let your Light Shine"

Oil on birch panel
20x18
This painting for me is about who I aim to be as a person and as an artist.
When I started painting back in 2017 , I really felt like it came from no where. I had never really done many artistic things in my life or felt that I was creative in any way. So when I sat down in front of a canvas for the first time it was really out of curiosity. I had been painting nail art on my clients nails and was curious to see if I could paint on a bigger scale.
When we moved to TN in 2020 is when I really started taking my art seriously.
Every single time someone gives me a compliment on my work I am incredibly thankful and humbled because to this day I still believe it has nothing to do with me. This is a gift my gracious Father gave me and I will aim to glorify Him with it for the rest of my days.
My “Artist verse” is Matthew 5:16
Chapter 5 in Matthew is the famous Sermon on the Mount. Jesus was speaking to a large crowd and began with The B attitudes telling them blessed are the . . . For they will receive . . . He was giving us a road map for how to live our lives and follow Him. He then went on to say that we are the salt of the earth and explained how salt preserves and adds flavor, then says that we are the light of the world and we are to let our light (which comes from Him) shine before men to glorify our Father in Heaven. So that is what this painting is all about. If you have a story where God has delivered you from something, restored something in you, saved you, healed you, SHARE IT!!! Tell the world what He has done for you.
“Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven.”

Cast out. . . Dirty. . . Shamed. . .
This woman had been bleeding for 12 YEARS!!! Back in Bible times, when a woman was bleeding she was considered ritually unclean and anyone who touched her was also unclean. Well what happens when you’re not just suffering once a month , but constantly for 12 years? You get cast aside. Treated as if you’re filthy and undeserving. As if it was something she had done to cause the bleeding. I can’t imagine being cut off from my friends and family because I was sick? How hard that must have been. Emotionally , physically, and spiritually.
She knew that if she were to touch even the hem of Jesus tunic that she would be healed!
That’s an amazing and beautiful faith. But when she grabbed his tunic and Jesus asked who touched him , He told her that it was her faith that made her well!
Do we have faith like that?? I know I don’t. My faith is more like Thomas who was always questioning and doubting. The Bible says that if we have faith as big as a mustard seed we could move mountains.
I pray that you and I will have great big beautiful faith like hers. That we will have hearts full of compassion and understanding for people in our lives who are experiencing hardships. That we won’t cast people away assuming their circumstances are self inflicted.
Even when they are that we would have grace and mercy towards each other.
“And a woman was there who had been subject to bleeding for twelve years, but no one could heal her. She came up behind him and touched the edge of his cloak, and immediately her bleeding stopped. “Who touched me?” Jesus asked. When they all denied it, Peter said, “Master, the people are crowding and pressing against you.” But Jesus said, “Someone touched me; I know that power has gone out from me.” Then the woman, seeing that she could not go unnoticed, came trembling and fell at his feet. In the presence of all the people, she told why she had touched him and how she had been instantly healed. Then he said to her, “Daughter, your faith has healed you. Go in peace.””

"Daily Bread"
My inspiration for this piece came from a word that keeps showing up all over in my life and that word is Abide.
“Abide in Me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself, unless it abides in the vine, neither can you, unless you abide in Me. “I am the vine, you are the branches. He who abides in Me, and I in him, bears much fruit; for without Me you can do nothing.”
â€â€John‬ â€15‬:â€4‬-â€5‬ â€
This painting is a call to myself. A call to all believers. A call to abide. A call to remain. A call to give Him our first fruits of our time. Give us this day our daily bread.
"Journey to Bethlehem"
I can’t imagine what she must have been thinking.
The journey from Judea to Bethlehem would have taken them 4-5 days. Nothing to busy her hands or her mind. Just time and distance. The weight of knowing who she was carrying but also not fully understanding the magnitude of it all. We as mothers carry the responsibility of raising our children to walk in the way of the Lord. Offering strength and comfort, love and support. How do you lend strength to the Messiah, the Savior, the King? And yet she was willing,
“I am the Lords servant. May your word to me be fulfilled.”
Luke 1:38

"Behold the King"
All throughout the Old Testament we see oppression.
The children of Israel wandered the desert and were enslaved over and over again. They awaited the coming of the Messiah to free them from their chains.
God chose people who seemed lowly and insignificant to fulfill his promises. He turned ordinary people to appointed people, irredeemable people to redeemed. We would call him Wonderful, Counselor, Mighty God, Prince of Peace, Everlasting Father. He is the King of Kings and Lord of Lords, our deliverer. He came to free us from the oppression of sin and restore us to right standing with the Father.

Isaiah 9:6 For unto a child is born, unto us a son is given; and the government shall be upon his shoulder. His name shall be called Wonderful, Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.

"More Than a Sunday Morning Faith"
This is a famous little church in Cades cove Tennessee.
Southern church architecture is iconic in my opinion.
I titled this painting More than a Sunday morning faith because faith isn’t about going to church on Sunday’s. It's more than that.
It’s about relying on Him for literally everything. It’s a relationship, not a religion.
