All throughout the Old Testament we see oppression.
The children of Israel wandered the desert and were enslaved over and over again. They awaited the coming of the Messiah to free them from their chains.
God chose people who seemed lowly and insignificant to fulfill his promises. He turned ordinary people to appointed people, irredeemable people to redeemed. We would call him Wonderful, Counselor, Mighty God, Prince of Peace, Everlasting Father. He is the King of Kings and Lord of Lords, our deliverer. He came to free us from the oppression of sin and restore us to right standing with the Father.
 
Isaiah 9:6 For unto a child is born, unto us a son is given; and the government shall be upon his shoulder. His name shall be called Wonderful, Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.
